Hiring A Writer Who Is Professional With Connectivity And SEO

Sunday, March 15th, 2009

The economy is in a slump and people are turning to the internet to make some money. As a professional freelance writer, I sincerely feel that while it’s great that the internet is providing many people a rope to cling on during this troubling time, businesses trying to find professional freelance writers for their web content or online marketing methods should be cautious about it.

The internet has become a breeding ground for all sorts of aspiring professional freelance writer. I am not being jealous because I am, frankly, thankful that there is a whole pool of new talents out there for me to tap into. I love that part of the bargain. But based on my experience as a professional freelance writer, there are problems that we need to face. There are so many of them out there right now, how do we know who is a good professional freelance writer and who isn’t?

The line has been blurred once again. The only time I remember this happening was when blogs become popular. Everyone became a journalist! As fun as it was to read into the lives of all those people who write blogs, it’s hard to find one that really rocks.

success keyboardI hire one or two professional freelance writers to help me out with my work sometimes when I am bogged down with work or when there’s an emergency. I value the availability of my professional freelance writer…but I’ve had my fair share of bad experiences in the past. Hiring a professional freelance writer who does not write well and writes for SEO purposes ONLY gives me a blinding headache! Thankfully, over the years, I’ve found some professional freelance writer who are, indeed, very professional about their work, puts their heart into every single word that they write.

SEO writing is fabulous, I know, but it’s hard to find someone who can write SEO stuff without compromising on the quality of the articles. The professional freelance writer has to be experienced in balancing out the SEO part of the writing process and also the connectivity of the article. There’s really no point in writing SEO articles without trying to make SOME sense.

So, before you hire a professional freelance writer, check into the writer’s background and ask for some samples. Don’t make the mistake of hiring the first SEO writer that promises you a low price because you may regret it, at the end of the day.

There will come a time, you’re marketing yourself on the internet, when you will need, desperately so, to find a credible and professiona writer for blog to help you with your business blog…for one very simple reason. As an online business owner, the services of a cheap and affordable freelance blog ghost writer will come in handy because it frees up your time for other things…for one thing, you can use the extra time to focus on bringing in business by keeping your business blog alive.

Throw a stone into the web of websites out there and chances are, you will find tens of thousands of writer for blog that you can consider hiring. It’s a simple, low start-up capital business, hence, anyone who can string a bunch of words together can get their legs through the door. That’s good news for you because you, as an online business owner, you’re pretty much spoilt for choice! The problem starts when you have trouble trying to find a good business blog writer who has time management skills and is willing to dig deeper into your business. The research part of the business makes significant difference between the business blog writer’s job is to help KEEP YOUR CLIENTS AND READERS. The writer for blog needs to keep in mind that the main purpose of you hiring him/her is to help keep the readers from running off into oblivion and never coming back!

Just trust me on this one – it’s easier said than done.

The role of a freelance blog ghost writer is not merely to put together a couple of words and make it read OK. it needs to read GOOD, INCREDIBLE and MAKE A SALE! I try very hard to impress this into the minds of my clients whenever they tell me that they want the articles to be ‘SEO’. Yes, SEO is one thing but is it good enough to bring more people into your business blog? At the end of the day, the bottom line is always MONEY….which means SALE. Without interesting, innovative writing style, personality-driven, informative articles to read in your blog, you might as well have thrown money into the drain.

Remember, when you hire a business blog writer, the writer needs to be able to think and act like your end-consumer. He/she needs to write stuff in your business blog that impresses the socks off of your readers….without which, you’re wasting all your effort.

Five reasons why you should never hire the first freelance writer you chance upon

Friday, August 1st, 2008

Freelance writer for hire. Cheap writer with experience. Quick turnaround time and professional work attitude” – reads the ads.

It sure sounds like someone I would like to hire to help me with the load of freelance writer jobs that I have backlogged at the moment. But as I scroll down the advertisement list and search engine result page, what do I see? I see tens of thousands of other similar freelance writer for hire ads…oh, how my head spun. Every one of these freelance writers for hire claims that they are the best one for me to hire.

The world of freelance writing has warped out of control recently because of a marketing method we all call ‘article marketing’. As long as a person can credibly spin a web of words together, whether it makes sense or not is another matter, they would launch themselves off as a freelance writer for hire.

In case you think I am shooting down these writers for unknown reasons, hang on a minute. I am definitely not! I would have to give credit to a few of the freelance writers that I’ve employed in the past who did incredible jobs without charging too much for it and I continue to use them till this very day…but the rest should be shot down. Shot because they spoil the freelance writing market.

The freelance writing market is too saturated as it is. Every turn you make, someone is a freelance writer ‘writing from the comforts of his/her home’, is ‘professional’ and have ‘relevant experience’.

As an employer and a business owner, before you hire a freelance writer for your job, here are some questions you should ask yourself and then use these questions to gauge whether the writer is the right one for you.

  1. Can the freelance writer that you intend to hire make extra effort to write in such a way that captures the attention of your readers? The market is saturated with words….can yours stand-out?
  2. Can the writer write in a professional yet enticing manner that makes your readers want to read further…better yet, buy something from you or use your services?
  3. Can the freelance writer for hire promise you originality? If yes, how credible do you think he/she is? Do you think the writer is capable of copying and pasting, rearranging and editing the work of others and then passing it off as hers/his?
  4. Remember that the freelance writer that you eventually hire has no responsibility towards you when you’re penalized for copying content of others! When the search engines ban you, you can’t turn around and say, “It was his/her fault! I didn’t know the content belongs to others!”
  5. And finally, read samples to see if the copywriter or ghost writer can write in a manner that won’t be wasting your money. Aim to amaze or at least, be informative with an interesting or refreshing approach to the topic, instead of deadpanning it out like a piece of plank.

A lot of it is guesswork but once you find the right freelance writer for the job, you’ll be glad that you did your homework.

Why Hire Writers For Your Blog When You Can Very Well Write For Yourself?

Tuesday, July 29th, 2008

mONEYThis is a question that commonly plagues the mind of a small business owner who doesn’t have millions to splurge on marketing and advertising campaigns. Having a blog is the way to go these days because every one knows that the world is all about interactivity and not merely ‘activity’ anymore. With an online business that has a popular blog, you’ll find yourself more connected to your readers, site visitors and potential customers. This is the bridge your small e-business and the pocket full of gold coins.

Having a blog means that you have to spend some time researching and finding information about your business so that you can update your readers, fans, and site visitors whenever they pop by and it must be something they want to respond to, feel strongly about or will be potentially be interested in.

Being a small business owner, you’re probably in-charge of a lot more things than you’ve bargained for….from accounts to marketing, from typing letters to making tea, it’s your job. If writing doesn’t come naturally to you, it would be tedious and cause you stress if you were to add ‘blog updating’ to your list of to-dos. (more…)

Copyright Issues With Your Content

Monday, July 21st, 2008

Even with Copyscape, we would have to admit that it’s hard to put a radar out for every one of the content that you put on your website or article directories. Even Google can only do so much to protect, detect and ban sites that copy your website content. We all know how much time and effort you’ve put into producing top-quality, up-to-date information and articles for your readers….we all know that but do people care?

That’s the thing…they don’t give two hoots how much effort you’ve put into your content. All they know is that they find it incredibly convenient to copy your content and place it into their websites.

The sad part of this is that not only do website owners copy others’ work, freelance content writers do that too. It’s something I call the easy way out because if you’re a writer, you can do the following and get away with most search engines. (more…)

How To Have A Good Relationship With Your Freelance Web Content Writer

Friday, June 27th, 2008

Have you ever hired a freelance web content writer only to find out that whatever he/she has been producing for you is not….in the style or format that you desire…much less want? This is a common problem. The reason is because all of us have different styles. Personally, my style is very ‘personal’. If you want me to write a ‘reporter’ style piece of content, I’m probably gonna suck at it really bad! But perhaps, if you’ve hired a web content writer who has been in the journalism scene a lot, then you’re going to get good results.

To be fair, I would like to say that most writers who do the freelance thing would do everything within their power to give you the content that you want the way you want it. it’s their bread and butter and they have no boss to answer to. If you don’t like the web content that they produce, then they have everything to lose.

To avoid the lose-lose situation, here are a couple of tips to enhance the relationship you have with your freelance writer.

Sample the writing and see if it fits your taste

We usually have a whole list of ‘sample’ articles that we have written in the past placed in our websites to show the clients what we are capable of and your scope of experience. If the freelance web content writer you’ve hired is somewhat new, he/she might not have enough portfolio to show you – but this doesn’t mean that you can’t a chance on him/her. (more…)

How to effectively make use of your freelance writer

Wednesday, March 26th, 2008

Many people have come to me voicing their problems about using freelance writers and then they curiously ask me, “How in hell do you survive? I don’t think I can trust another freelance writer again – not in the very near future, anyway”. How do freelance writers survive? Gosh….I’ve never asked me the same question. I guess freelance writers like me just roll with the punches, I guess. But what I think this fellow was trying to get at was this – how to work with your freelance writer in such a way that thing get done fast, does not cost a whole truckload of money and does not zap your patience like hyperactive kids.

OK, then let me start answering this question by saying that I’ve got huge problems as a freelance writer. Being a copywriter or writer is not easy….not being a good one, anyway because here’s what a good freelance copywriter needs to do. Say, Mr. A who owns a boutique comes over to me and say, “Hey, you! You’re a freelance writer. Now, I’ll give you XXX amount of dollars and you write my copy for me in two days”.

What does a freelance writer do
If I take the project on, what I have to do is this….I have to sit down, surf the web, read materials and download stuff so that I understand the industry. I am in the freelance writing industry, not the fashion industry and if he wants me to write something powerful and believable for him, I’ve got to, first, UNDERSTAND his industry, his market, his products and find something to yap about. Whilst being a good yapper often makes a good copywriter, that’s not all there is to it. OK, so boutique was a very general type of business….now, how about fixing computers or maybe road building? I know absolutely nothing about these stuff and if given the task, I would have to dig far and deep into the industry even before I can start writing something for the client.
