The piranhas are waiting – Article Marketing Tactics

by Marsha Maung

There’s this one client of mine whom I’ve been working for for a very long time….the first couple of months, we tediously worked on article marketing, among other search engine marketing activities, till one fine day, we discovered that we managed to get the website up to the first page in google. We were ecstatic about it and slowed down activities for a bit…to a less frantic pace, that is. Then one fine day, about three to four weeks down the road, he emailed me with CAPITAL LETTERS asking me what happened to his first page ranking and what was it that I do?

Befuddled, I went online and checked and…found out that his biggest competitor in the business had taken over the No.1 spot in Google and that his ranking was demoted to a page 2. I can tell you that he was a mad unhappy man and demanded to get his ranking up….like I was the main man in Google. Yikes! Anyway, I spent a great many days trying to explain to him that article marketing and search engine promotion is like a never ending game. That when you stop or slow down the work, the articles, the updates and the promotion, your rankings will most likely suffer a drop.

Why?, he asked.

The reason is simple. The Internet is filled with a vast number of people who knows all about article marketing too…it’s not just me, or him or you or them. It’s everyone on the Internet with the remotest interest in getting to the top of the Google ranking knows that article marketing is one of the biggest components to online promotion. If you stop, for any single one or two reason at all, promoting yourself with your articles, others will get the chance to climb over your head. This is a fact because if you ask any Internet marketing guru this, they’ll tell you the same thing. It’s a game and the game never stops…not even when you’re right at the top. Or should I say, especially if you’re right there at the top.

The only way to get to the top is to write articles to promote yourself and publish-worthy stuff that others will want to publish, fresh and unique ideas that don’t sound like some robotic dude punched it out on his computer during his tea break is what will bring your ranking up. And you have to keep at it, keep it coming and don’t stop.

In a lot of ways, article marketing is a game that can get stressful. You can never get to sit on your laurels and gloat and you’re supposed to treat this ‘game’ in such a way that you can actually imagine or feel the tens of thousands of millions (whatever the figure is, it’s  big) of competitors (piranhas?) waiting jjjuuussstttt for the right moment to take you down.

When your article marketing activities dwindle down, that spells a good time for them.

You rest, they make their move and you’re out.
