Self publishing has both a long standing history, even Edgar Allen Poe self published. Technology today makes self publishing quick, easy, and as expensive or inexpensive as you want to make it. Best of all, consumers do not care who published you; all they care about is whether your information holds value and benefit for them. But this is not the only reason to self publish. Self publishing means you get 100% of the control of your book and 100% of the profits. Traditional publishing means you give up control and the majority of the profits. Whether you self publish to build your current business or you are planning on using your book to launch a new business, you can easily make six figures and more each year by leveraging the fact that you are a published author.
Many authors miss major money making opportunities when they write their book because they are focused on the old publishing model. The model that says you write for years and years, suffer tons of rejection from the large publishing houses, and then finally on some golden day in the future, you make it big. (more…)
“You don’t need to be really good in English or a linguistic expert. You just have to be grammatically adept in putting thoughts into words very quickly and efficiently”, she says about writing articles for the Internet. Which is true. We’ve noticed how turned off how people can get when they use too many ‘impressive’ words in their articles – not everyone’s as good in English as you think. And if you use too many impressive words and challenge the readers’ vocabulary, they will NOT be impressed and instead become either confused or pissed off!
Use bombastic language only when you know the readers have the time and are willing to spend the time reading on the Internet. Web surfers are rarely patient with finding what they want. (more…)
It has long been a contention that the longer the article, the heavier the content, the more important it is to search engines. But if you dig into the dirt like we do here, you’ll be surprised with the kind of things we find….under the carpet. Many copywriters out there would cut your throat by saying that you need at least 1200 words in an article in order to make it work with the search engines. They tell you that because they want your money. Hey, freelance web content writers have to eat too…and can’t say I blame them.
Longer is not always better for article marketing
But the truth is that your web content does not have to be long. Web content writers like us are often very particular about keyword density. Keyword density is important because this is how many times preferred keywords appear in the article. You do this by taking the number of times the keyword appeared in the article, divide it over the total number of words in the article and then multiply it by a hundred. This way, you’ll get a percentage. There’s no definite answer to what percentage is perfect for search engine marketing! That’s the trouble but through a lot of people’s testing and experimenting, the article marketing community, in general, have come to the conclusion that 5% density is OK but we should not attempt to except the 8% density mark. There are many articles out there that I find interesting and very helpful on the Internet. These are talented writers who pay a lot of attention to every word, letter, number, dot, punctuation mark that they put into their articles. Some of these renowned writers are people like me, someone who works from home, sitting there sipping his or her fourth cup of coffee, smoking up the room with cigarette smoke and screaming at the kids to stop fighting.
I can tell you that writing is a very methodical and also mechanical process. After some time, you write just to get it over with and when this happens, the quality of the article drops dramatically. You sit there wondering if something is wrong with the batteries in your wall clock because time seems to have stopped moving. It happens all the time. This is not the way it is supposed to be done. Good writers don’t do this. When they start getting robotic or mechanical, they get off their butts, do something else, stretch a little, read and then get back to writing. (more…)
Can you believe it? Can you friggin believe it?? It’s 2008 already….ALREADY! I mean, I can remember the first time I started writing for a living…the first jump I made into the freelance online writing career…and here I am….2008. Eight years and counting. Shit!
For freelancers, whether you’re a freelance cook, freelance singer, freelance striptease dancer, or freelance writer like me, it’s time to take a look at what we have done through the whole year of 2007. For me, it’s not always about looking forward and making resolutions. I have always believed that in order to make me a better freelance writer for 2008, I need to look back first. Take a look at all the things that I have done the past 365 days, the mistakes I’ve done, the things I didn’t do, the things I should’ve done and all the mistakes in all the articles I’ve done (I am hoping there aren’t too many) and turn them into positive things for 2008.
